Your Local Library Needs You  Volunteers make a difference…at Marysville Public Library You’ve always thought that volunteering meant doing the dirty work regular staffers refused to do.  Necessary work, yes, but very tedious and repetitious.

Stuffing envelopes.  Shelving books.  Raking leaves.  Etc, etc, etc.  But volunteering at your Marysville and Raymond Public Libraries is anything but tedious and repetitious.  Volunteer opportunities at the library are full of fun, creativity and responsibility.  The list of opportunities can be found at your local library, or by calling Denise Birkhoff, coordinator of Volunteers (937) 642-1876Help educate, entertain, enrich and strengthen our diverse community.

No special skills are necessary, just a desire to help someone and give back to the community.

United Way   The United Way of Union County is a volunteer-based organization that brings neighbors together to improve lives.  Through its family of 24 Member Agencies, more than 1,700 volunteers make an impact by helping to meet the social service needs of more than 16,000 Union County residents.  An annual fundraising campaign provides financial support for these efforts and includes annual allocations to the services provided by Memorial Meals, Loving Care Hospice, the Richwood Civic Center, the Pleasant Valley Seniors, and the Windsor & Community Seniors.  United Way's annual Community Care Day, held the second Tuesday of September, brings more than 200 volunteers together to complete over 100 community service projects, many of which are done in the homes of area senior citizens.

Donate an Afghan or Quilt for an Expecting Mother  Four times a year, women in the last trimester of their pregnancies who are currently participating in the WIC program through the Union County Department of Health are given a baby shower. During the shower, information is shared with the ladies on infant feeding, child safety, child development, immunizations and alternate or additional ways to use the foods they receive WIC coupons for. By sharing the information in a game-type format, the moms are learning how to care for their new babies in an enjoyable way. Since no baby shower is complete without gifts, each mom is given a new hand made baby afghan or quilt that has been donated by members of the community. If you would be interested in making quilts or afghans to donate, please call Dianne May, OSU Extension - Union Co., 937-644-8117 or 1-800-589-8584 (Union Co. residents, only please). The quilts or afghans have no specifications other than to be suitable for a baby, so let your creativity and talents prevail. Donations are accepted at any time.
